The best Champions League atmosphere on Wednesday was in Toronto
After APOEL beat Lyon on penalties and Lionel Messi destroyed Bayer Leverkusen, another Champions League set the stage. It was the CONCACAF Champions League, a competition between the best clubs in North America. In front of over 45,000 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, David Beckham, Landon Donovan, and the rest of the Los Angeles Galaxy squared off against Toronto FC. The match, which was the first leg of the quarterfinals, ended in a 2-2 draw. But the real winners were the supporters, who created some unbelievable tifo displays.
After the LA-TFC match, the Seattle Sounders hosted Santos Laguna for the tournament’s second game of the night. The Sounders came out on top with a 2-1 win. And if anyone knows anything about Seattle fans, they’re not ones to disappoint. Oh, and MLS returns this weekend. The future of soccer in [North] America has never looked brighter.
